Hammam

Beverly Hills
2024

The project proposes to turn a detached 1930's garage with an eighties extension into a Wellness Centre. The reconversion integrates both Roman and Turkish bathing programs into the building with a rooftop gym. By removing the central roof portion of the existing structure light is brought into the central tepidarium with curving details that also present themselves as skylights in the perimeter of the rooms. The rooms include a caldarium, cold plunge, wet and dry sauna and apodyterium. The structure of the space takes a Gordon Kaufmann column used in the main residence but abstracts it to its pure geometric form, removing all ornamentation. Colonnade and light choreograph the circulation and the privacy of the space.
